On Monday, May 4, officials with The Raceway at Western Fair District announced that the track has cancelled the 2020 edition of the Camluck Classic Invitational.

Via a press release, Western Fair announced that the decision was reached after much consideration. The 2020 edition of the Camluck Classic Invitational had been scheduled for Friday, May 29.

In its release, the track stated that the $150,000 stakes race is slated to return in 2021.

Western Fair also stated that the 2020 City of London Series, which had finals slated for the same night as the Camluck Classic, has been postponed and will be worked into the schedule when live racing resumes at ‘The Raceway.’

The Camluck Classic is traditionally the final program of the meet at the London, Ont. oval; and, as indicated by Ontario Racing, it is not anticipated that there will be any live racing in the province during the month of May.

Red Shores To Host Racing In June

I know I’m looking forward to harness racing’s return. I do like to play now and then, but my HPI account has been idle since Cal Expo shut down following their Tuesday, March 31 race program - the last harness racing card to be held in North America.

Right now it doesn’t look like we’ll see any harness action starting up before June, but more jurisdictions are showing signs that they’re ready to come back. The latest request comes from the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission.

*As optimism begins to grow for the return of live harness racing in the province of Ontario, the Woodbine Entertainment Group’s CEO Jim Lawson along with COSA President Bill O’Donnell will discuss the situation on COSA TV’s live broadcast tonight (Wednesday, May 6) at 7:30 p.m.

So here we go - possibly one more month to wait and June can’t come quick enough for many. Normally - if all was right in the world - I’d be looking forward to some downtime, at the end of this month, but not this time around. My home province of P.E.I. is currently closed to non-residents, with a Provincial State of Emergency still in effect until May 31…

Hang in there folks - there are better days ahead!
